“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” – Coco Chanel
I don’t think anyone has ever said it better. Fashion is all around us and ever evolving and transforming. That is why I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the CollegeFashionista team and share the styles and trends that are taking hold of my campus this summer. My name is Brooke Hitsman and I am a senior at Florida State University double majoring in Retail Merchandising and Product Development as well as English with a business emphasis.
I didn’t always know that I wanted to do something in fashion as a career, although my mother has been telling me I would since I was a little girl. When I first came to Florida State I struggled with my major selection. I started as an exploratory major and then ventured into the business world before I finally realized my true passion lied with fashion. I guess what they say is true, moms really do know best.
As Coco so intuitively knew, fashion is everywhere and I find that no matter where I look, I see it. I pull inspiration from the artists I loyally play on repeat, the festivals I live for, past icons that have paved the way for all my fellow hopefuls and most of all, my pupils that indulge and share my passion for fashion.
On just about any day, you can find me in combat boots whether they be paired with high-waisted shorts or leggings. I love all neutrals and have found that about half of my closet is composed of black. I love headwraps, long tunics and linen pants. I’m always wearing my chunky gold watch and have an addiction to fringe purses. I will wear these items with an enthusiastic outlook on life and pep in my step this summer. I can’t wait for all the adventures to come and am so excited to be able to share the styles I encounter and see on my way with all of you!
